One of the premier performing arts halls in the western United States, Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts showcases a diverse season of music, dance, theatre, comedy, and film from around the world. Each year, the Center presents hundreds of events that entertain and inspire—from live performances and educational programs to community celebrations and major festivals.
The Center is among the most important projects of Arizona architect Bennie Gonzales, who designed the 1975 adobe-inspired building as part of Scottsdale Civic Center. A major renovation in 2009 by Scottsdale architect John Douglas modernized the Center’s main entrance and interiors.
The Center’s spacious Dayton Fowler Grafman Atrium welcomes visitors and features the Guest Services Box Office, The Store @ the Center, and the ArtReach Space and Center Space galleries, both operated by Scottsdale Arts Learning & Innovation. Works of art on view include Kana Tanaka’s radiant glass sculpture Spirit of Camelback (2009), commissioned by Scottsdale Public Art.
The Center is located in Old Town Scottsdale at Scottsdale Civic Center, a beautifully landscaped outdoor space with multiple stages, just a short walk from Scottsdale’s downtown shopping and gallery districts. Scottsdale Civic Center reopened in 2023 following extensive renovations; it now hosts a variety of outdoor events.
Nearby attractions include Robert Indiana’s iconic LOVE sculpture and Louise Nevelson’s Windows to the West, as well as Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA), which was designed by architect Will Bruder and includes James Turrell’s Knight Rise Skyspace and James Carpenter’s Scrim Wall, both commissioned by Scottsdale Public Art.
