THE SHORT COURSE

Tee off on our scenic, 18-hole course that offers fun and fast rounds, ideal for beginners and pros alike. Each hole is a par 3, making this the perfect place to work on your short game.

The original 1961 course was designed by Arthur Jack Snyder, and redesigned by his mentee, Forrest Richardson. The updated layout pays homage to the original with challenging greens, rugged slopes, and distinct holes.

The Course

18-holes | Par-3 | 2,310 yards | 2,065 yards | 1,735 yards

While the course itself is a joy to play, it’s the breathtaking views and stunning scenery that make it a true destination. As you journey counterclockwise around the perimeter of Mountain Shadows Resort, Camelback Mountain begins to fall into sight. When you veer around the perimeter into more open spaces, the course shines with the unforgettable Mummy and Dell holes, long par-3s and elevated tees. At the final destination, the course slopes back down to the resort, welcoming you into the oasis of Mountain Shadows.

History

Mountain Shadows’ original golf course was built in 1961 by course architect Arthur Jack Snyder. It was a favorite course among Hollywood celebrities and socialites. Course architect Forrest Richardson completely redesigned the course, paying homage to the original greens with exceptional surfaces, distinct holes and stunning views. These hallmarks, combined with flexibility of tees, create an unparalleled modern golf experience.

Q IS THERE A DRESS CODE

Socially accepted golf shirts are appreciated, but your comfort is most important. The nicer you look, the better you will play, so goes the rumor. Shorts can be just about any style, but please do try to present them at a length that everyone wants to look at, and remember that gym shorts are for the gym. Footwear is encouraged on the course for reasons of safety and should be of a type and style that will not damage the putting greens. On that note, no high heels or boots, please.

Q WHAT ARE THE FEATURED HOLES

The tough-as-nails No. 4, "Biarritz," with its uphill climb to a Biarritz green, features a sunken swale that traverses the putting surface. The beloved No. 7 "Jutty" is an ultra-short hole across the water to a peninsula green that juts out into the famous Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale pond. The "Punchbowl" No. 10 is a secluded, pocketed green with stunning views of Camelback Mountain’s Camelhead. The dual-green at No. 13 and No. 14, "Mummy" and "Dell," sports a bunker within the green in homage to the famous 6th hole at the Riviera. The plateau No. 16, "Scotch Notch," is a wedge hole to an elevated green. "The Forrest Wager" is a unique, par-2 betting hole where 40-yard putts and chips cascade over a rolling green to settle bets or press the match.
